Runway is the most production-credible name in AI video. While newer entrants (Pika, Kling, Sora, Hailuo, Veo) sometimes match or exceed Runway on specific shots, Runway's combination of generation quality, editing tools, and integration with traditional post-production pipelines makes it the go-to for working creatives. The Standard plan at $15/mo is the entry point for sustained creative work; the Pro plan at $35/mo unlocks Gen-4 and significantly higher generation budgets. For feature-length or commercial work, the Unlimited and Enterprise tiers are where Runway pays for itself — the time saved on rotoscoping, sky replacement, and crowd cleanup alone often justifies the cost. Runway's Gen-4 release in early 2025 substantially closed the quality gap with Sora and Veo on photoreal motion and character consistency. Where it still trails is duration (most outputs cap at ~10 seconds per generation, requiring chaining for longer sequences) and physically-grounded motion in complex scenes — a universal AI-video limitation today.
